Join the Clark Man and the hundreds of dedicated professionals at Clark Pest Control as they celebrate National Pest Management Month this April.

This annual observance by the National Pest Management Association acknowledges not only Clark Pest Control’s commitment to the protection of public health, food, and property from common pest threats, but the dedication of thousands of individuals across the country who fight the good fight against unwanted and potentially harmful pests.

Recent industry research has shown more than 80 percent of homeowners feel that pest control companies provide a valuable service, and more than 75 percent feel that pest professionals are guardians of public health.

Protecting public health is an important task, because some of the pests that people come in contact with regularly are a public health concern, and severely can compromise their quality of life.

Rodents and cockroaches, for example, can contaminate food, spread disease, and exacerbate allergy and asthma symptoms, while backyard pests like ticks and mosquitoes spread diseases like Lyme disease, West Nile virus and Zika virus.

What else did consumers have to say about the professional pest management services that the Clark Man and his peers provide to homes across the country?

  • Almost three in five surveyed have a positive view towards the professional pest control industry
  • More than four in five say professional pest control companies are more effective at handling household pest problems than homeowners who attempt to manage the problem on their own
  • Seven in 10 who have regular pest control service have it because they feel it best protects their family

Spring is the prime season that pests emerge, given the warmer weather, so it’s important to pest proof your home to keep those unwanted crawling or flying visitors out.

In honor of National Pest Control Month, the Clark Man recommends the following spring pest prevention tips:

  • Seal any cracks on the exterior of your home with a silicone-based caulk, including entry points for utilities and pipes
  • Replace weatherstripping and repair loose mortar around the foundation and windows
  • Keep tree branches and shrubbery well trimmed and away from the house, as overhanging branches can act as highways into the home for ants and other pests
  • Repair fascia and rotted roof shingles
  • Keep mulch at least 15 inches from the foundation
  • Keep attics and crawl spaces well ventilated and dry
  • Store garbage in sealed containers and dispose of it regularly
  • Avoid leaving pet food out in dishes for long periods of time
  • Eliminate sources of standing water around the house, including birdbaths and in clogged gutters

If you have a problem with pests in or around your home, call or text Clark Pest Control at (800) WE-NEED-YOU (936-3339) or drop me an email at clarkcares@clarkpest.com. We will come out and make a proper identification and make a treatment recommendation.

Until next time I’m the Clark Man, and thanks for helping me keep unwanted pests out of your home.
