Summer is all about getting outside and enjoying nature, especially in states as abundant with natural beauty and activities as California and Nevada.
One of the truest summer experiences is camping. Is there anything better than pitching a tent at a national treasure such as Yosemite National Park, or at one of the many state parks, and soaking in all that nature has to offer?
Yet venturing into nature sometimes can serve up a few dangers. To keep your outdoor activities safe and enjoyable, the Clark Man reminds camping and hiking enthusiasts to take proper precautions when taking on the great outdoors, because direct contact with certain insects and wildlife can present risks.
Mosquitoes and ticks, for example, are vector pests that feed on blood and can transmit serious illnesses, such as West Nile virus and Lyme disease, through their bites. Stinging insect and spider bites can also cause severe allergic reactions.
Also, wildlife can become aggressive if threatened, while animals such as raccoons and bats could be potential carriers of rabies. The best bet is to avoid contact with these animals as much as possible.
To help keep your outdoor activities free of unwanted pests and wildlife, the Clark Man recommends you follow these tips:
