Clark Pest Control Receives IPM Innovator Award
For Efforts to Revolutionize the Integrated Pest Management Industry
California Department of Pesticide Regulation Recognizes Local Company's
Leadership with Distinguished Award
LODI, Calif. (March 11, 2010) - Clark Pest Control, a family owned and operated company headquartered in Lodi, is receiving the distinguished Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Innovator Award from the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR). This award is given to organizations that develop and promote methods of natural pest control that reduce the risks associated with using traditional chemical pesticides.
IPM - Integrated Pest Management - refers to an environmentally sensitive approach to pest management with the least possible hazard to people, property, and the environment. Through IPM, the companies and their technicians first conduct an evaluation of the site to determine the specific problems and treatments needed. Whenever possible, a non-chemical strategy is used. This practice is commonly used by professionals throughout the industry.
"IPM Innovators are role models for change from traditional pest control to strategies that reduce or eliminate toxic pesticides," said DPR Director Mary-Ann Warmerdam. "One of our missions is to encourage through recognition the use of green pest control methods that are more protective of public health and the environment. We especially applaud Clark Pest Control for its efforts to find a replacement for pyrethroid pesticides for residential pest control."
Clark Pest Control, the West's largest pest control company, has always strived to be on the cutting edge of the industry and is dependent on non-chemical treatments in its pest management. The company currently has a large-scale IPM program in which each of its technicians performs a site evaluation and a customized service plan, which reduces the overall use of pesticides. Clark expects to have the entire company performing this service within three years.
In addition, Clark helped to develop GreenPro, a national certification program for the pest management industry, and was one of the first companies in California and nationwide to become certified. In fact, Clark Pest Control has more GreenPro certified technicians than any other pest management company in the country.
For these and many other reasons, Clark Pest Control is one of eight organizations receiving DPR's IPM Innovator Award this year. An official award ceremony is being held on March 18, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA) Headquarters Building at 1001 I Street in Sacramento (in the Sierra Hearing Room). Following the ceremony, there will be a photo opportunity in the Redwood tree area near the entrance to the building.
