Did you know that only female mosquitoes bite? Were you aware that mosquitoes can breed in as little as a quarter inch of standing water?
Mosquitoes possess numerous unique characteristics, but their most notable trait is that these insects are vectors of numerous diseases, which include West Nile virus, malaria, dengue, and equine encephalitis (EEE).
That is why Clark, your friendly termite, grounds care, and pest management expert, would like to share some valuable information on how to protect your family and pets this summer from the threat posed by mosquitoes.
Introducing SWAT Mosquito service
Clark Pest Control is introducing SWAT Mosquito service. Although your local vector control agency provides community-wide population control of mosquitoes, Clark’s SWAT Mosquito service will offer targeted, ongoing coverage in your backyard. It’s a three-pronged approach to mosquito control, serviced year-round, to ensure that your home and family are protected from these annoying and potentially dangerous pests.
Public-agency vector control focuses on macro-level, community-wide source reduction and population knockdown. Clark’s new SWAT Mosquito service, on the other hand, works on a micro level in your backyard to minimize mosquito reproduction, interrupt the life cycle of developing larvae, and reduce adults by applying a chemical barrier.
Clark’s specially trained SWAT Mosquito technicians will:
- - Identify and treat potential breeding areas around your home
- - Treat harborage areas where mosquitoes rest
- - Install and service a mosquito attractant trap
Removing the mosquito threat in your yard
Even the smallest of containers that can collect water can breed hundreds or even thousands of mosquitoes. Needing little water to lay their eggs, mosquitoes can breed in bottles, barrels, buckets, an overturned garbage can lid, flowerpots, and children’s yard toys.
What can you do to lessen threat of mosquitoes in your backyard?
- - Drill holes in the bottom of recycling containers
- - Clear roof gutters of debris
- - Clean pet water dishes regularly.
- - Check and empty children’s toys, sandboxes, and playsets
- - Repair leaky outdoor faucets or sprinkler systems
- - Change the water in bird baths at least once a week
- - Turn over or cover canoes and other boats
- - Avoid water collecting on pool covers
- - Empty water collected in tarps around the yard or on woodpiles
- - Dispose of any tires, which can breed thousands of mosquitoes.
- - Remove unneeded vegetation or trash from around any source of standing water that cannot be changed, dumped, or removed
