RECENT rainfall and soaring humidity has left termites hungry and Mackay homes could be on the menu for breakfast, lunch and tea.
With Mackay entering its peak season for termite activity, pest experts are warning homeowners to be alert to signs of termite activity around their homes.
During summer months, a combination of warm temperatures and high humidity from seasonal storm activity provides ideal conditions for termites to become active and start new colonies.
Termites pose a threat to building structures as they rely on timber as their primary food source, establishing colonies inside roofs, walls, ceilings and under floors. Once inside a house, termites can cause significant structural damage within a six-month period, depending on the size of the colony.
